About Dr. Erkan Yıldırım

• Born in 1968.
• Graduated from Eskisehir High (College) School in 1986.
• Graduated from Faculty of Medicine, University of Anadolu, Eskisehir in 1992.
• Achieved his general practitioner period in Denizli in 1993.
• Achieved his residency in chest surgery in the Siyami Ersek Hospital, Istanbul and Ankara Chest Diseases and Chest Surgery Center, Ankara in 1998.
• Completed his military duty in the chest surgery department of the Gulhane Military Medical Academy in Ankara in 1999.
• Commenced his specialty work in Ankara Numune Teaching Hospital in 2000. Became the chief assistant in the same clinic in 2001.
• Presented as observer chest surgeon in Zurich University (Switzerland) in 2002, in University of Toronto (Canada) in 2004 and in Leuven University (Belgium) in 2008.
• Became a member of the ESTS (European Society of Thoracic Surgeons) in 2002.
• Became a member of FETCS (Fellow of European Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons) after being succeeded in EBTCS exam (European Board of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgeons) in 2002.
• Obtained the certificate of Turkish Board for Thoracic Surgery in 2003.
• Succeeded in the scientific examination for being an Assoc. Professor in Thoracic Surgery in 2007.
• Achieved the LUNG TRANSPLANTATION FELLOWSHIP program in Toronto (CANADA) in 2007-2008; engaged in 85 recipients' procedure and almost 100 donor procedures. Involved in 4 clinical study, two of which published in 2009 in US.
• He is the FIRST Turkish author who has the scientific paper regarding Lung Transplantation in his field (“Surgical techniques: lung transplant and lung volume reduction”, Proc Am Thorac Soc. 2009 Jan 15;6(1):66-78 AND “Initial experience with lung donation after cardiocirculatory death in Canada", J Heart Lung Transplant. 2009 Aug;28(8):753-8. Epub 2009 Jun 28).
